Akpabio mourns Christian Chukwu, says “We Have Lost a Football Icon”
President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has described the death of former Green Eagles captain, Christian Chukwu, as a great loss to Nigeria and the global football community.
In a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, Akpabio paid tribute to the late football legend, calling him a national treasure and a source of inspiration to generations of athletes.
“We mourn the loss of a Nigerian football icon, Christian Chukwu,” Akpabio said. “As a pioneering defender and former captain of the Green Eagles, he etched his name in the history of Nigerian football. His leadership, skill, and dedication inspired countless fans and paved the way for future generations.”
The Senate President expressed sadness over Chukwu’s passing, noting that his contributions to Nigerian football were immeasurable and deeply appreciated.
“On behalf of the Nigerian Senate, I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and the entire football community,” he added.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of Chukwu’s soul and asked God to give his loved ones the strength to bear the loss.
