A large number of dignitaries have begun arriving in Daura, Katsina State, the hometown of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, ahead of his burial rites.

The roads leading into the ancient town are witnessing heavy traffic as mourners and officials troop in to pay their last respects to the late Nigerian leader.

Among those who arrived early are former Senate President Ahmad Lawan, former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy Isa Ali Pantami, former Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun, and ex-PDP National Chairman and former Borno Governor Ali Modu Sheriff.

Also sighted in Daura were former Minister of Transportation and Dan Amana of Daura Rotimi Amaechi, former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello, and former governors of Sokoto State Aliyu Wammako and Aminu Tambuwal.

Other notable personalities include former Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari, former Ekiti Governor Kayode Fayemi, and ex-Minister of Women Affairs and former Deputy Governor of Plateau State Pauline Tallen.

The late President Buhari, who ruled Nigeria as a military Head of State between 1983 and 1985 and later as a democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023, died at the age of 82 after a brief illness.

His burial is scheduled to take place in accordance with Islamic rites, with prayers expected to be held at the Central Mosque in Daura before his remains are laid to rest in his hometown.

The turnout of prominent figures and dignitaries reflects the significant place Buhari held in Nigeria’s political and national history.
