Anambra Guber: LP’s Frontline Aspirant John Nwosu pulls out of primary election

Frontline Labour Party (LP) governorship aspirant, John Nwosu, has withdrawn from the party’s primary election in Anambra State, citing widespread legal and procedural irregularities.

Nwosu, who was expected to compete for the party’s ticket alongside former NIWA Director-General Dr. George Moghalu, made the announcement in a statement released on Saturday morning—just hours before the primaries were set to begin.

He pointed to the recent Supreme Court judgment sacking Barr. Julius Abure as the LP’s National Chairman, noting that any activities coordinated under Abure’s leadership, including the ongoing primaries, stand on legally shaky ground.

“After a diligent review of all the activities, illegalities, and indecent conduct by officials of the Labour Party at the national and state levels… it is clear that they fell short of the provisions of our party’s Constitution, INEC guidelines, and electoral regulations,” Nwosu stated.

He also accused the party of manipulating the delegates’ list, saying no proper congress was held across the state’s 21 LGAs, yet a list was hurriedly released just hours before the exercise.

“It is cogent and verifiable that no delegates’ congress took place… and yet a list of purported delegates emerged. That list was altered several times and only posted at the party secretariat eight hours to the primaries,” he alleged.

Calling the process “a charade,” Nwosu said he could not in good conscience participate in such an exercise, which he believes undermines due process and integrity.

“I am convinced that my participation will lend credence to illegality and offend my sense of integrity, Christian values, and principles,” he said.
