Bagos declares PDP exit inevitable, says Plateau cannot return to 2023 political chaos
Former House of Representatives member, Rt. Hon. Dachung Musa Bagos, has declared that the crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reached an intolerable level, making his departure from the party not a matter of speculation but an imminent and strategic necessity.
In a strongly worded statement, Bagos said the PDP has lost the national structure, unity and organizational discipline required to support credible candidates, adding that the lingering leadership tussle between the Turaki-led and Abdularam-led factions has left the party without a clear centre of authority.
He warned that a political party unable to resolve its leadership crisis is incapable of defending the mandate of its candidates, providing stability to its members, or offering a viable platform ahead of national elections.
Bagos stressed that for Plateau State, the consequences of PDP’s internal disarray are neither abstract nor new. He recalled the post-2023 experience when elected representatives from Plateau were removed through court judgments tied to the party’s “lack of structure”, a situation he described as painful and avoidable.
According to him, Plateau people suffered politically and developmentally because the party failed to provide cohesion, coordination and national backing during a critical electoral cycle.
He cautioned that repeating such mistakes in 2027 would be disastrous for the state’s political future.
Bagos argued that Plateau needs a political platform that is coherent, disciplined and capable of winning elections—not one trapped in unending internal battles that weaken its members. He emphasised the need for a party that can defend votes, support candidates and deliver the national presence required to protect the state’s political interests.
“Plateau deserves clarity, not confusion; strength, not crisis; progress, not political recycling,” he stated.
Bagos said both Plateau and Nigeria are watching closely, noting that it is time for strategy to override sentiment. According to him, aligning with a stable and visionary national political structure is the only way to secure the future of Plateau people.
He affirmed that any political move he makes going forward will be guided strictly by the need to safeguard Plateau’s collective mandate and ensure the state stands on a platform built on unity and national relevance.
Bagos concluded that for Plateau, for its people and for the future, “a new political direction is not just necessary — it is inevitable.”
