Bill to establish Federal Medical Centre in Kogi state passes second reading
…As Reps want FRSC, Police to ensure only registered vehicle ply roads
The House of Representatives has passed for second reading, a bill seeking to establish a Federal Medical Centre at Isanlu in Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State to take care of medical emergencies in Kogi West.
The bill sponsored by Leke Abejide (ADC, Kogi) was unanimously passed by voice vote at plenary on Thursday.
Leading the debate on the bill, Leke Abejide said when established thebFederal Medical Centre in Isanlu will have a profound impact on the lives of millions of Nigerians.
According to him, the establishment of the medical centre is long overdue, adding that Yagba East lacks adequate medical facilities, forcing residents to travel long distances for quality healthcare. This amendment will address the healthcare disparities in the region, providing access to specialized services, and improving health outcomes.
According to him, the new medical centre will provide quality healthcare services to the people of Isanlu, Yagba East and surrounding regions, create jobs and stimulate economic growth, enhance medical research and training and reduce the burden on existing healthcare facilities in Kogi State
Meanwhile, the House at plenary asked the Federal Road Safety Commission to collaborate with the Nigeria Police to ensure that only vehicles with registered plate numbers found in the Nigeria Vehicle registration database ply roads in Nigeria.
The House want the two agencies of government intensify efforts to arrest users of fake plate numbers and ensure that the producers are traced.
This followed a motion on the proliferation of fake vehicle number plates in the country sponsored by Matthew Nwogu (LP- Imo).
