BREAKING: Tinubu postpones G20, AU–EU summits over Kebbi, Kwara security incidents
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has postponed his scheduled trips to Johannesburg, South Africa, and Luanda, Angola, as he awaits further security briefings on the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State and the attack on worshippers at Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State.
In response to a request from the Governor of Kwara State, the President ordered the immediate deployment of additional security personnel to Eruku and the wider Ekiti Local Government Area. He also directed the police to apprehend the bandits responsible for the church attack.
Originally scheduled to leave Abuja to attend the 20th G20 Summit in South Africa and subsequently the 7th AU–EU Summit in Angola, Tinubu suspended his departure due to the recent security breaches.
The President is now awaiting reports from Vice President Kashim Shettima, who visited Kebbi on his behalf, as well as updates from the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services regarding the attack in Kwara.
Reiterating his commitment to citizen safety, President Tinubu directed security agencies to ensure the safe rescue and return of the 24 schoolgirls abducted by bandits.
