First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on Nigerians to embrace environmental protection, cleanliness and the adoption of clean energy as a shared responsibility necessary for sustainable living.

Mrs Tinubu made the call on Monday in Abuja in a message to commemorate the International Day of Clean Energy 2026, observed globally under the theme, “Clean Energy for People and Planet.”

According to the First Lady, the annual observance serves as a reminder of the collective duty of citizens to protect and preserve the environment for present and future generations.

“I urge us all to embrace renewable energy and sustainable technologies as an essential foundation for survival, healthy living and environmental stewardship,” she said.

She stressed that a transition to clean energy remains crucial to addressing environmental degradation, improving public health and securing a safer planet.

“Let us work together to build a greener, healthier planet for all,” the First Lady added, while wishing Nigerians a happy International Day of Clean Energy.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the International Day of Clean Energy is observed annually on January 26 and was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly through resolution A/77/327.

The day is aimed at raising global awareness and mobilising action towards a just, inclusive and sustainable transition to clean energy, for the benefit of both people and the planet.
