Death Toll rises to 20 in Benue Herdsmen attacks as search for survivors continues
The death toll from the recent coordinated attacks by suspected herdsmen in Ukum and Logo Local Government Areas of Benue State has climbed to 20, according to an update from Governor Hyacinth Alia.
Speaking via telephone with a correspondent, Governor Alia confirmed that while five corpses were initially recovered in the Gbagir area and deposited in the mortuary, two additional bodies were later found by civilians searching for their missing relatives. He also noted that a grieving family in Gbagir insisted on burying their loved one immediately, and the security forces provided cover for a brief burial ceremony.
In Logo Local Government Area, where simultaneous attacks were reported, the police recovered twelve more corpses, which were also taken to the mortuary. This brings the total number of confirmed deaths in the Sankera axis to 20.
Governor Alia assured residents that the state government remains committed to protecting lives and restoring peace. He also encouraged the public to assist security agencies by sharing useful information that can help curb insecurity across the state.
