Edo Election Tribunal Verdict: Ighodalo heads to Appeal Court

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the 2024 Edo State governorship election, Asue Ighodalo, has vowed to challenge the tribunal’s ruling that upheld Monday Okpebholo as governor.
In a statement released after the verdict, Ighodalo described the decision as a “huge travesty of justice” and confirmed that his legal team had been instructed to take the case to the Court of Appeal.
“This is not about me or any single individual; it is about the very essence of democracy and the collective right of the people to freely determine their future,” he stated.
The three-member tribunal, led by Justice Wilfred Kpochi, dismissed Ighodalo’s petition for lack of merit, citing his failure to present credible witnesses to support allegations of electoral malpractice.
Despite the setback, Ighodalo urged his supporters to remain calm and law-abiding, assuring them that the legal battle for justice and democracy was far from over.
“We may not agree with the verdict, but we remain steadfast in our belief that the rule of law must be the foundation of our democracy,” he said.
Expressing gratitude for the support he has received, Ighodalo reaffirmed his commitment to upholding democratic principles and ensuring that the mandate of Edo people is not compromised.
“We remain resolute. We remain committed. And we shall not waver in our pursuit of truth and justice,” he declared.
