FCT Education Secretariat recognised for excellence in policy contribution
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Education Secretariat has received national recognition for its outstanding performance in policy formulation and memo delivery. The Mandate Secretary, Dr Danlami Hayyo, was honoured with a prestigious award during the National Council on Education (NCE) meeting held in Abuja.
The award celebrates the remarkable achievements of the FCT Joint Consultative Committee on Education (JCCE) and National Council on Education (NCE) Desk Officers. Their dedication, exceptional memo preparation, and invaluable contributions to national education policy have set a high standard for other states.
Speaking at the 2025 Sensitisation Meeting, aimed at aligning the FCT’s action plan with the State Education Sector Operational Plan (SESOP) and presenting commendation letters to the JCCE Desk Officers, Mr Joseph Abunike, Director of Policy, Planning, Research and Statistics, highlighted the team’s exemplary efforts.
“The FCT team has consistently demonstrated an unwavering commitment by attending all National Council on Education meetings, significantly influencing policy decisions at the national level,” Mr Abunike stated.
He commended the Desk Officers for their exceptional skills in preparing, presenting, and defending memos, which have been instrumental in shaping education policies across the country.
Dr Danlami Hayyo expressed gratitude to the JCCE/NCE Desk Officers for their professionalism and dedication to enhancing the quality of education in the FCT. He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to initiatives prioritising quality education, ensuring the FCT retains its leadership in educational policy formulation and implementation.
In her remarks, Mrs Jane Asonye, Deputy Director of Policy and Planning, praised the Desk Officers’ sustained efforts since 2018. She noted that their consistent excellence has enabled the FCT Education Secretariat to maintain its leadership position in memo writing and presentation.
Mrs Asonye also recalled the commendation letter received in 2021 from the former Mandate Secretary for Education, Malam Sani Dahir El-Katuzu, recognising the Desk Officers’ pivotal role in the Secretariat’s success. She emphasised that the recent award serves as motivation to continue delivering impactful educational policies.
The sensitisation meeting included a review of the FCT’s action plan, interactive sessions, and the development of the 2025-2027 SESOP. Participants were urged to build on the Secretariat’s successes to ensure continued excellence in education planning and implementation.
