FCT Schools boost digital literacy with State-of-the-Art ICT laboratory donation

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has received a donation of a well equipped 20-capacity WAEC Standard ICT Laboratory at Government Secondary School, Orozo under the AMAC Area Council from OFON Essential Global Foundation.
In her Opening remark, the Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory ,Senator Ireti kingibe said, education and technology are crucial for National development emphasizing on the need to ensure education is given the needed attention in the FCT.
She announced that plans are already under way to establish Computer Based Test (CBT )centers in Karshi and AMAC to benefit Students in the FCT.
Senator Ireti pledged the payment of School fees for 100 indigent Students of the School and provision of a solar – powered generator to ensure uninterrupted learning in the newly donated ICT Laboratory.
In his response speech,the member representing FCT North,Hon. Chinedu Obika said that education is a top priority of his legislative agenda promising to work tirelessly to address all education – related challenges in his consitituency.
He stressed that No nation should take the education of its citizens lightly reiterating his commitment to continue to place education in the front burner by providing learning materials,tables,chairs and scholarship among other education resources for students who excel in their academics.
The member commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for its dedication to educational development stating that as Nigeria’s capital, FCT must continue to set the pace in equipping Schools with the necessary tools to compete in the digital age and for academic excellence.
He thanked Senator Ireti kingibe for her passion and commitment to improving the lives of residents and enhancing the teaching and learning environment.
Speaking earlier ,the Permanent Secretary, Education Secretariat,Mrs Joy Okeke expressed gratitude to the OFON Essential Global Foundation for their generous contribution, emphasizing the importance of Public-Private Partnerships in advancing education.
She stated that this event highlights the invaluable role of collaboration in education.
Okeke noted that the FCT Administration prioritizes investing in technology and digital resources to ensure that our students remain competitive in a rapidly evolving digital world.
She also commended the Honourable Minister of the FCT for his efforts in creating an enabling learning environment, leading to significant improvements in school infrastructure and educational resources.
The Permanent Secretary who represented the Mandate Secretary for Education urged students to make the most of the facility while calling on school management to ensure proper maintenance for long-term sustainability.
In his address, the Director/ Secretary, FCT Secondary Education Board,Dr Sani Ladan acknowledged the efforts of the Stakeholders in enhancing the quality of education in the teaching and learning process reiterating the Board’s commitment to continue to maintain positive Partnerships with organizations of likeminds.
In the donor’s remark, Engr Essien O. Emmanuel, President,OFON Essential Global Foundation said the donation of the ICT Laboratory is to enhance students’ learning experiences and prepare them for Computer Based Test CBT in WAEC and NECO examinations.
He commended the guests for their presence and unrelenting efforts to continue to impact their constituencies,he assured that the facility will further strengthen the organization’s commitment to digital education.
Giving vote of thanks, the Principal of the benefiting school,Mrs Bariyat Haruna expressed her delight for the new ICT facility donation adding that it is an investment in the future of the students,empowering them with the skills needed to thrive in today’s digital world.
She promised that the school will utilize the facility in advancing innovation and academic success.
The highlight of the well attended event which featured cultural performances and goodwill messages was the formal commissioning of 20 capacity WAEC Standard ICT Laboratory.
