FCTA begins crackdown on 1,095 revoked property titles in Abuja
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has begun enforcement action on 1,095 property titles revoked across Asokoro, Maitama, Garki and Wuse districts over longstanding indebtedness to the government.
Mr. Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, made this known in a statement issued in Abuja on Friday.
According to him, the affected titles were withdrawn for failure to settle Ground Rent, Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) charges, violation and penalty fees, as well as land use conversion fees.
The enforcement followed the expiration of a final 14-day grace period on Tuesday. Olayinka noted that despite multiple public notices issued between May and November—through newspapers, online platforms and television—the defaulting property owners failed to comply.
He explained that the defaulters had been repeatedly urged to clear their outstanding liabilities or risk forfeiting their titles.
“Consequently, the general public, especially property holders in the FCT, are hereby informed that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mr. Nyesom Wike, has approved the commencement of enforcement on 1,095 properties for various categories of default.
“This contravenes Section 28 (5a and b) of the Land Use Act, as well as the terms and conditions attached to their Rights of Occupancy,” he said.
Olayinka added that enforcement would target 835 properties owing Ground Rent, and 260 properties that defaulted on violation fees and land use conversion charges.
