The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has declared its intention to prosecute motorists who drive against traffic or violate traffic light signals within Abuja, warning that offenders will be arraigned before a Mobile Court.

In a statement issued through the FCT Transportation Secretariat, the Administration noted that any motorist found guilty of these infractions will have their vehicles impounded in addition to facing legal action.

The Director of the Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS), Abdulateef Bello, stated that driving against traffic and ignoring red lights are offences punishable under the FCT Road Transport Regulations 2023, specifically Regulation 18, Nos. 172–173.

Part of the statement read: “The FCT Transportation Secretariat has observed with concern the increasing rate at which motorists drive against traffic and disregard traffic light signals across the Federal Capital City and Territory. The motoring public is hereby warned that, henceforth, any individual caught committing these offences will have their vehicle impounded and be brought before a Mobile Court for prosecution and appropriate penalties.”

The Administration reiterated its commitment to enforcing traffic laws to ensure road safety and public order.
