The Federal Government has announced new measures to recover all funds due to the federation currently being held by individuals and corporate entities, in a renewed effort to strengthen fiscal accountability and boost national revenue.

The move was disclosed on Monday when the Chairman of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Dr. Mohammed Shehu, hosted the Special Adviser to the President on Revenue Matters and Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Dr. Zacch Adedeji, at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja for the formal inauguration of consultants engaged for the Revenue Recovery Exercise.

In a statement signed by Maryam Yusuf, Head of the RMAFC Information and Public Relations Unit, Dr. Shehu reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to ensuring that all revenues due to the federation are properly accounted for and remitted into the Federation Account.

“This exercise is not a routine administrative action but a deliberate, result-oriented innovation designed to strengthen fiscal governance and ensure every recoverable naira due to the Federation is transparently remitted,” Shehu stated.

He explained that hiring consultants for the exercise was a strategic step to curb revenue leakages, improve transparency, and strengthen the fiscal capacity of all tiers of government in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“With the full support of Mr. President, the Special Adviser on Revenue, and the FIRS Chairman, this initiative for special recovery projects across sectors was launched to identify and recover unremitted revenues,” he added.

Speaking at the inauguration, the FIRS Chairman, represented by Coordinating Director Shettima Tamadi, commended the RMAFC for its proactive leadership and assured of continued collaboration toward achieving the goals of the recovery programme.

“Nigeria has a huge revenue gap, but with stronger collaboration between agencies and partners, we can bridge that gap and achieve sustainable fiscal growth,” Tamadi said.

The Commission’s Secretary, Joseph Okechukwu, also urged the consultants to deliver within the six-month timeframe and ensure that all recoverable revenues are promptly returned to the Federation Account to support national development.

Accepting the engagement on behalf of the consultants, the lead consultant, Temitayo Ojeleke, described the assignment as a “national call to duty,” pledging to deliver professional, transparent, and measurable results.

“We accept this assignment as partners in Nigeria’s economic renewal, ready to deliver results that will strengthen the nation’s revenue base,” he assured.

The inauguration marks a major step in RMAFC’s ongoing drive to boost inter-agency collaboration, enhance accountability, and maximise revenue generation for the benefit of the entire federation.
