Flying Eagles edge Tunisia 1–0 in U-20 AFCON Opener

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles began their 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Tunisia at the Cairo International Stadium.
The breakthrough came in the 37th minute when Auwal Ibrahim latched onto a well-timed through ball from Odinaka Okoro, calmly placing his shot into the bottom corner to hand Nigeria the lead.
Following the interval, both teams adopted a more cautious strategy. Tunisia pressed for an equaliser, while the Flying Eagles remained disciplined at the back, looking to capitalise on counter-attacking opportunities. Despite a few encouraging chances, Coach Aliyu Zubairu’s side were unable to double their advantage.
Nigeria’s defence held firm until the final whistle, securing a crucial three points in their Group B opener. The Flying Eagles now shift their focus to their upcoming clash against Morocco on Sunday, 4 May, as they aim to build on their promising start to the tournament.
