Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the developmental reforms initiated under his administration, describing them as a catalyst for positive changes across the country.

Bago gave the commendation while receiving members of the House of Representatives ad hoc Committee on the rehabilitation and operationalisation of Baro Inland Port at the Government House, Minna.

The governor noted that President Tinubu’s reforms have enhanced growth in various sectors of the economy, particularly through the release of resources to states, which has facilitated development projects.

He described the initiatives as critical to sustainable growth and improvement of public services.

He further praised the House of Representatives, under the leadership of Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, for setting up the committee to oversee the revival of Baro Inland Port, which he described as a “Nigerian project.”

According to him, the revitalisation of the Baro Port has been a priority for his administration, with several studies already conducted on how best to restore its operations.

He added that the state government is in talks with the Nigeria Railway Corporation to reactivate the locomotive lines from Baro to Minna, which would ease road congestion.

Bago also revealed that the state is working with the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy to ensure the timely completion of the Baro–Katcha road, which is currently under construction.

Expressing concern over frequent boat mishaps, the governor called for stronger collaboration with the Lagos State government on water resource management and advocated for the establishment of a National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) office in Minna.

Earlier, the leader of the delegation and former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase, commended Governor Bago for his support.

He explained that the committee, chaired by Hon. Saidu Musa Abdul, who represents Bida/Gbako/Katcha Federal Constituency, was in Niger State to assess the state of the Baro Port, describing it as a potential gateway to Nigeria’s economy.

Wase also praised President Tinubu’s efforts in addressing infrastructure challenges nationwide and stressed the need for lawmakers to complement these efforts through effective oversight.
