The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Chapter, Comrade Grace Ike, has emphasised the critical role of Nigerian youths in shaping the country’s future through nation-building and the adoption of a value-driven mindset.
Ike made this assertion during a courtesy visit by members of FANU Entertainment to the NUJ Council Secretariat in Utako, Abuja. Addressing the challenges faced by Nigerian youths, including the widespread “Japa” phenomenon of emigration, Ike urged young Nigerians to remain steadfast in their commitment to the nation. She further reiterated the importance of embodying resilience and hard work as beacons of hope for a brighter future.
“There is no other nation for Nigerian youths but this one,” she said. “We must imbibe the right values that promote national development and contribute positively to nation-building wherever we find ourselves. History will remind us tomorrow of what we do today.”
Commending FANU Education for their efforts in reorienting the minds of young people, Ike promised the council’s support for their activities. She encouraged youths to excel in their chosen fields, emphasising the importance of integrity and excellence in every endeavour.
“If you want to serve, serve well. If you want to lead, lead well. Anything worth doing is worth doing well,” she said. “Even in entertainment, which many youths are passionate about, there is an opportunity to contribute to nation-building. Channel your talents—whether in music, rap, or other creative pursuits—towards making Nigeria a better place, and we will amplify your voices as journalists.”
Ike reiterated the role of journalists as the conscience and mirror of society, pledging the NUJ’s readiness to support initiatives that promote positive change. “Our doors are always open. We are here to tell your story from a professional perspective and help amplify your message to the younger generation,” she added.
Earlier, Mr Duke Oro-Oghene, team leader of FANU Education, congratulated Ike on her emergence as the 17th Chairman of the NUJ FCT Chapter following her victory in the December 4, 2024, election. Accompanied by team members Mr Aaron Daniel, Ms Fadom Esther, and Mr Basil Sengor, Oro-Oghene highlighted the purpose of the visit as fostering a collaborative relationship with the council.
The group also presented a congratulatory plaque to Comrade Ike and other executive members in recognition of their leadership achievements.
