Grief deepens in Niger community as parent of abducted pupils dies after school attack
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has confirmed the death of a Niger State resident whose three children were among the students abducted during a recent attack on a local school. According to the state CAN Chairman, the man suffered a fatal heart attack shortly after receiving news of his children’s kidnapping.
The tragic development followed an attack by suspected bandits who stormed the school and abducted multiple pupils, leaving the community in fear and uncertainty. Families have been anxiously awaiting updates as security agencies continue efforts to rescue the victims.
Speaking on the incident, the CAN Chairman described the deceased father as a dedicated parent who was overwhelmed by the shock and trauma of the abduction. “He collapsed immediately after learning that all three of his children were taken. Attempts to save him were unsuccessful,” the chairman said.
He condemned the increasing frequency of school abductions and urged both federal and state authorities to intensify measures to protect educational institutions, particularly in high-risk areas. He also appealed to security agencies to expedite rescue operations and ensure the safe return of the kidnapped children.
Residents of the affected community have been holding prayer gatherings and support meetings as tension and grief deepen. Local leaders say the situation has created widespread fear, with many concerned about the possibility of further attacks.
Security forces are reported to be conducting coordinated operations in the forests surrounding the area, though official details on the rescue progress remain limited.
The man’s death has further intensified calls for urgent and comprehensive action to address insecurity, as families and community members struggle with the emotional toll of the crisis.
