Gunmen Kill Three Women, Injure One at Plateau Mining Site

Gunmen have killed three women and injured another person after attacking a mining site at Rakum community in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The incident occurred on Monday when the attackers reportedly stormed the mining site at about 4:00pm and opened fire on workers before fleeing the area.

Spokesman of the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), Rwang Tengwong, confirmed the attack.

Tengwong said three women were killed while another person sustained injuries during the incident.

“The incident happened at Rakum. Three women were killed while another person was injured when the attackers stormed the mining site and opened fire,” he said.

He expressed concern over the safety of residents and workers in the area, urging security agencies to identify and arrest the perpetrators.

“This is another sad development that has further heightened concerns over the safety of people working and living in the area,” Tengwong said.

“We are calling on the security operatives to immediately go after the perpetrators and ensure that those responsible are arrested and brought to justice.”

A resident of the community, John Silas, who also confirmed the attack, said the incident occurred at about 4:00pm.

According to him, the attackers opened fire on people at the mining site, killing three women and injuring another person.

Silas expressed concern over the safety of residents, saying people should be able to carry out their legitimate activities without fear of attacks.

He appealed to security agencies to intensify efforts to track down those responsible and take measures to prevent further attacks in the community.

The identities of the victims and the circumstances surrounding the attack were not immediately disclosed.
