Harassment: Ministry of Education launches inquiry at Girls’ College
The Federal Ministry of Education has launched a thorough investigation into allegations of sexual harassment against a teacher, Mr Jatto, at the Federal Government Girls’ College (FGGC), Benin City.
In a statement, the Ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Mrs Folasade Boriowo, confirmed that the school’s Principal has been summoned to the Ministry’s Headquarters in Abuja for further clarification.
The statement further explained that a preliminary inquiry by a committee set up by the school authorities indicated that the case in question was not one of sexual harassment but rather an issue of excessive discipline in classroom management, which had been misrepresented.
According to the statement, Mr Jatto was on duty supervising prep at the time of the incident and was responding to a disorderly classroom situation.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and the integrity of educational institutions across the country.
It also urged the public to remain patient, assuring that the final findings of the investigation would be disclosed in due course.
