Information minister reaffirms commitment to enhancing national security
Nigeria’s Minister of Information, Mallam Idris Mohammed, has reiterated the Federal Government’s unwavering dedication to enhancing national security. He also called on the media to adopt responsible reporting practices in support of the country’s efforts to combat crime and terrorism.
Addressing participants at a media forum, the minister stressed that safeguarding the lives and property of citizens is a collective duty. He remarked:
“This gathering is meant to inspire action, not lamentation. As media professionals, we must champion unity and bring attention to the commendable efforts of our security personnel.”
While acknowledging ongoing challenges, the minister noted significant progress in recent times.
“For the first time in years, there is clear coordination among the military leadership. This cooperation is already yielding positive outcomes in the fight against insecurity,” he stated.
Mallam Idris encouraged journalists to highlight the achievements of the armed forces, saying:
“It is essential to continue reporting the military’s operations against terrorism, banditry, and other threats. Their dedication and sacrifices deserve our recognition and encouragement.”
He commended the administration of President Bola Tinubu, citing notable strides in areas such as debt repayment and economic reforms, which he said are being matched by tangible improvements in the security landscape.
“No administration has accomplished what President Tinubu’s government has within two years. Security is being restored, and national stability is gradually returning,” he affirmed.
The Minister concluded with a message of optimism and unity:
“By working together, we can build a safer nation and pass on a legacy of progress and unity to the next generation.”
