Jigawa: Gov Namadi reaffirms commitment to Education, seeks stronger ties with UBEC
The Executive Governor of Jigawa State, Umar Namadi, has restated his government’s strong dedication to improving the standard of education across the state.
He made this known during a courtesy visit to the Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Aisha Garba, at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja. During the visit, Governor Namadi stressed the need for deeper cooperation to tackle key challenges like the maintenance of school infrastructure and the shortage of teachers.
The governor also pointed out some new strategies the state is using to increase school enrollment, especially by involving women as community influencers and mobilizers. He explained that women have been very instrumental in spreading awareness about the importance of education and persuading parents to send their children, particularly girls, to school.
In her response, UBEC’s Executive Secretary, Aisha Garba, praised Jigawa State for its consistent performance, especially in promptly providing counterpart funds, effectively executing UBEC projects, and maintaining transparency. According to her, “Jigawa’s commitment has earned the state more financial backing and greater access to intervention funds.”
She further stressed the importance of partnership and the need to focus on delivering quality education. Garba also revealed that Jigawa State is one of the beneficiaries of the upcoming Hope-Edu project, funded by the World Bank, which aims to address major problems in the basic education sector.
She added that UBEC has plans to launch focused programs that will build the capacity of teachers and education managers, which will help improve service delivery and learning outcomes at the basic education level.
This visit marks a major step in strengthening the cooperation between UBEC and the Jigawa State Government to ensure all children have access to inclusive, fair, and quality education.
