Just In: FCT Teachers call off Three-Month strike

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) branch of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has officially called off the strike it began in March this year.

The union has directed all teachers across the FCT to resume duties on Wednesday, following the release of their new minimum wage payments and five months’ arrears.

In a communique issued after an emergency meeting in Abuja on Tuesday, the NUT stated that the suspension followed the implementation of the new wage structure and the payment of outstanding arrears into teachers’ accounts on July 8, 2025.

The union, while expressing concern over the lack of seriousness previously shown by education stakeholders in the FCT, commended the intervention of the FCT Minister and other leaders involved in resolving the dispute. It also announced plans to set up a special committee within two weeks to harmonize and work out the payment of all outstanding arrears and ensure a lasting solution to the issue.

The NUT appreciated the patience and resilience of its members during the over three-month industrial action and extended gratitude to traditional rulers, civil society groups, and concerned Nigerians who intervened during the period.
