JUST-IN: NAF Jet crashes in Niger State, Pilots eject safely
A Nigerian Air Force jet has reportedly crashed near Karabonde in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, with early indications showing that both pilots survived after safely ejecting from the aircraft.
The incident, which occurred on Saturday evening, was first reported by Lapai TV, a local digital broadcaster. According to eyewitnesses, the Alpha Jet went down around 4:10 pm, sparking concern among residents before it burst into flames.
“The jet came down very close to the community, but thankfully the pilots ejected before impact,” an eyewitness said, describing a loud sound that sent villagers scampering for safety.
Residents were said to have cautiously returned to the scene moments later after realising the pilots were safe.
As of the time of filing this report, the Nigerian military has yet to issue an official statement on the cause of the crash or the condition of the aircraft.
