Kano ranks second in Nigeria’s drug abuse crisis
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has revealed that Kano State records the second-highest number of drug abuse cases in Nigeria.
The chairman and chief executive of the NDLEA, Brigadier General Muhammad Buba Marwa (rtd), made this known during the commissioning of a new accommodation and rehabilitation centre for agency personnel in Kano.
Expressing deep concern over the widespread abuse of drugs in the state, Marwa noted that individuals from various sectors of society were entangled in the growing menace.
He emphasised the need for a multi-stakeholder approach in addressing the drug abuse crisis, calling for collective action to tackle the problem holistically.
Marwa disclosed that the agency is working towards establishing rehabilitation centres in all states across the federation.
“We appreciate the interventions from the presidency and urge even stronger commitment towards achieving our set goals,” he said.

He further explained that the newly commissioned facility aims to boost the welfare of NDLEA personnel and enhance their operational capacity, describing it as a clear reflection of the agency’s dedication to its mandate.
Commending the zonal commanders for their relentless efforts in combating drug abuse, Marwa also called on parents and guardians to be more proactive.
“I urge parents to purchase drug-testing kits available at all our state commands. If you suspect your child might be involved in drug use, these kits will help you verify and take necessary action,” he advised.
The event was attended by senior NDLEA officials and other key stakeholders
