Major gridlock on Gwagwalada-Giri-Zuba Expressway, motorists trapped
A catastrophic traffic incident has led to a massive and deadly gridlock on the Gwagwalada-Giri-Zuba Expressway, bringing all vehicular movement to a complete standstill.
The chaos began after a serious accident blocked the single, already congested lane, leaving a trail of trapped vehicles stretching for miles in both directions.
Compounding the dire situation is the conspicuous absence of traffic wardens or officials from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). As of the time of this report, no uniformed personnel are on the scene to control the traffic, direct motorists, or provide assistance. This lack of intervention has exacerbated the chaos, with drivers and commuters left to their own devices in a desperate and often futile attempt to navigate the jam.
The incident occurred on the lane heading toward Zuba, where ongoing road construction had already narrowed the highway to a one-way thoroughfare.
The accident has created a complete bottleneck, trapping countless commuters—including many traveling to and from Abuja—with no alternative routes available. Frustrated motorists have reported being stuck for several hours, burning precious fuel and facing extreme hardship.
The absence of traffic control has turned a bad situation into a perilous one. The gridlock not only causes significant delays but also creates a major safety risk, as it would be nearly impossible for emergency services to reach the scene of the accident or assist anyone in need.
