NAWOJ National Secretariat Installs Caretaker Committee in Niger, advocates unity
The National Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Aisha Ibrahim, on Tuesday February 25, 2025 inaugurated a caretaker committee to streamline and organise a credible election for NAWOJ Niger State Chapter, at the IBB Pen House, Minna.
Members of the caretaker committee are: Asabe Sule Garba of federal Information Chapel as Chairperson; Maimuna Raji Egigogo of Prestige FM Minna, as Secretary; while Maureen Dibia of Niger State Ministry of Information; Maryam Musa of Niger State Television; and Ameera Bawa of Radio Niger are members of the committee, respectively.
The National Chairperson urged members of the association in Niger state to give peace a chance for the good of the association.
She encouraged members of the chapter to shelve all forms of bickering and sentiment so as to move NAWOJ in the state forward.
The National Chairperson stressed that it was only in an atmosphere of peace that the Association would be able to achieve set goals.
She explained that the caretaker committee was necessary in order to streamline the activities of the association with the view to ensure one united NAWOJ in Niger State.
She noted that NAWOJ members in the State are known for peaceful co-existence but wondered why the peace was allowed to elude them.
The National Chairperson charged the caretaker committee to come up with a workable template for conducting election to usher in a new executive for the State Chapter within the next three months.
She also charged the committee members to, among others, liase with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Niger State Council, in the discharge of its duties and also come up with a comprehensive and authentic list of NAWOJ members in the State.
On his part, the Chairman, NUJ Niger State Council, Comrade Abu Nmodu, said the disbandment of the electoral committee and subsequent inauguration of the caretaker committee was done in good fate.
He said the State Council of the NUJ has no any personal interest of whatsoever but only acted in the interest of peace and to avoid setting a bad precedence.
In her acceptance speech, on behalf of the members of the committee, the Chairperson of the Caretaker Committee, Asabe Sule Garba, appreciated the National Officers and the NUJ Niger State Chapter, for their confidence in them, promising that the committee will ensure that the purpose of which they were set up is achieved.
She also solicited for the support of the National and Zonal Secretariats, the Niger NUJ ad well as members of the Chapter to actualise the mandate given to them, adding that they will always knock on their doors for advice when the need arises.
