Nigerian Artistes earn over ₦58 billion on Spotify in 2024
Nigerian artistes have achieved a remarkable financial milestone, with earnings from Spotify royalties surpassing ₦58 billion in 2024—more than double the amount recorded in 2023 and five times that of 2022. This revelation comes from Spotify’s 2024 Loud & Clear report, which highlights the growing global influence of Nigerian music.
The report further reveals that the number of Nigerian artistes earning at least ₦10 million in Spotify royalties has more than doubled since 2023 and tripled compared to 2022. Spotify’s Managing Director for Sub-Saharan Africa, Jocelyne Muhutu-Remy, reaffirmed the platform’s commitment to supporting Nigerian artistes, stating that their creativity and talent continue to captivate audiences worldwide.
Beyond financial gains, the report highlights the cultural impact of Nigerian music. In 2024 alone, Nigerian artistes were discovered over one billion times by first-time listeners, while more than 1,900 artistes featured on Spotify editorial playlists—an increase of 33% from the previous year. The global appetite for Nigerian music is evident, with a significant share of the ₦58 billion in royalties coming from international streams. Additionally, Nigerian artistes have experienced a 49% rise in music exports over the past three years, further cementing their place in the global music industry.
This extraordinary success underscores the strength and influence of Nigeria’s music industry. With listeners worldwide spending over 1.1 million hours streaming Nigerian songs and curating approximately 250 million playlists featuring Nigerian artistes, the reach of Naija music has never been stronger. As local consumption continues to surge—rising by 206% year-on-year and an astonishing 782% over three years—Nigerian artistes are not merely making music; they are driving a global cultural movement.
