The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially approved the launch of the NIMC NIN Authentication (NINAuth) platform, designed by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) for secure and seamless identity verification and authentication.

This was disclosed in a statement on Tuesday by the Head of Corporate Communications at NIMC, Dr. Kayode Adegoke. He explained that the presidency had also directed all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to adopt the NIN Authentication system for identity verification purposes.

According to Adegoke, this development aligns with the commission’s mandate to regulate a reliable digital identity for Nigerian citizens and legal residents. The NINAuth platform, described as a cutting-edge suite of services featuring web, API, and mobile verification, is aimed at improving data security, safeguarding privacy, and simplifying access to government services.

He noted that the initiative is part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to strengthen Nigeria’s national identity management framework. The NIMC NINAuth application will serve as the official platform for integrating with the commission’s backend system, introducing advanced protection measures and giving individuals more control over how their personal data is shared.

Adegoke further stated that the platform requires the explicit consent of individuals before their data is shared for Know Your Customer (KYC) purposes or other verifications. This measure promotes trust, transparency, and user control in managing digital identity.

The new platform enables secure identity verification for services such as SIM registration, passport applications, tax submissions, financial transactions, government intervention schemes, and driver’s licence renewals. It also supports other regulatory processes handled by various MDAs.

Highlighting its key features, Adegoke said the NINAuth platform enhances personal data protection against unauthorised access while empowering individuals to manage how their data is shared. It also offers seamless access through a secure single sign-on feature, making it easier for Nigerians to use public and private services.

He described the NINAuth application as a secure, scalable, and interoperable system for identity verification through API integration. It facilitates real-time authentication of NIN records to boost efficient service delivery, ensure database harmonisation, and support compliance with the National Identity Policy.

The NIMC has designated the NINAuth service as the exclusive platform for all NIN-based verification and authentication processes in Nigeria. The commission also made the implementation guide and operational details available at https://ninauth.nimc.gov.ng.
