NPFL slaps Shooting Stars with ₦5M Fine over crowd violence
The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has imposed a fine of five million naira on Shooting Stars of Ibadan following violent incidents involving their supporters during the club’s Matchday 32 clash against Ikorodu City.
Reports indicate that Shooting Stars fans held the Ikorodu City players hostage and vandalised their team bus after the match, prompting the league authorities to take swift disciplinary action.
In addition to the fine, the club’s supporters have been banned from attending future home matches at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan.
Shooting Stars were found guilty of three major offenses: failure to ensure adequate security, inability to control fans leading to the attack on the visiting team, and the throwing of objects onto the pitch.
The club has 48 hours to either accept the ruling or file an appeal.
