NUJ FCT honours Anambra CP Orutugu as Best Crime Fighter of 2025

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has been named “Best Crime Fighter – Man of the Year 2025” by the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory Council.

The honour was bestowed during the NUJ FCT Press Week Lecture and Awards Ceremony held on July 22 at Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.

Themed “Journalism in a Changing World: Press Freedom, Media, Democracy and Society”, the event celebrated outstanding contributions to security, governance, and journalism.

CP Orutugu was recognised for his outstanding leadership and strategic approach to crime prevention, which has contributed to major security improvements in Anambra State. Under his watch, the state has witnessed significant successes in tackling violent crimes, breaking criminal networks, and enhancing community policing efforts through strong collaboration with other security agencies and local stakeholders.

In its citation, the NUJ FCT Council praised CP Orutugu’s professionalism, commitment to the rule of law, and transparent leadership, all of which have restored public trust and improved security across the state.

While receiving the award, CP Orutugu dedicated it to the officers and men of the Anambra State Police Command. He reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents and visitors in the state.

The award ceremony was attended by top security officials, including the Inspector General of Police represented by Force PRO ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, and AIG Zone 7’s representative, ACP Odugbesan O., alongside other senior officers and dignitaries.

SP Tochukwu Ikenga, spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command, described the award as a reflection of the collective effort and dedication of the command’s personnel to delivering excellence in policing.
