NUJ FCT reaffirms commitment to effective service, ethical journalism

The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council has pledged to continue delivering services that prioritise the interests of its members.

Comrade Grace Ike, the Chairman of the NUJ FCT Council, made this commitment during a meeting with a delegation from the NUJ FRCN Abuja operations Chapel,  at the NUJ FCT Council Secretariat..

She praised the team for their strong support since her election and assured that her administration would maintain transparency, accountability, and foster development that would make every member feel valued.

Comrade Ike also stressed the importance of ethical journalism, she called in the chapel to prioritise professional standards in their reportage to justify the public confidence and trust as watchdog and mirror of the society. She urged members to remain objective, balanced, and fair in their reporting to strengthen the profession’s role as a bridge between the government and the public.

She emphasised that her leadership should not be seen merely as a woman supporting another woman, but as one who has the skills and qualities to enhance the association, setting a positive example for others to follow.

In her remarks, Mrs Shakirat Alabi, Chairperson of the NUJ Abuja operations, described her election as a call to action and affirmed that Grace Ike’s leadership would bring much-needed changes to the system.

Mrs Alabi reiterated her commitment to supporting the FCT Council in creating a more inclusive and effective union, free from bias.

Mrs Grace Namiji, Deputy Director of New Media at FRCN Abuja operations, also commended Comrade Ike for her inclusive leadership and for ensuring that every member has equal access to benefits. She praised Ike for breaking from the past where certain members, particularly at Kapital FM, were excluded.

Mrs Basil Ikpang, Chairperson of the Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), expressed her appreciation for the visit and called for more collaboration in driving positive change that would benefit all members and contribute to national development.

Finally, NUJ Secretary Jide Oyekunle thanked the delegation for their visit, highlighting the need to support women in leadership positions to break barriers, ensure gender equality, and improve representation.
