Odey to act as Governor during Otu’s three-week leave

The Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, will take over the duties of the state while Governor Sen. Bassey Otu is on a three-week annual leave.
Matthew Okache, the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, shared a statement on Tuesday confirming that the Cross River State House of Assembly has granted Governor Otu permission to take a break.
In a letter sent to the Assembly, Governor Otu officially informed the lawmakers of his decision to take leave. The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, read the letter aloud during a session, and the House then discussed and approved the request.
The lawmakers praised the governor’s leadership and wished him a peaceful and rejuvenating break. They expressed confidence that he would return refreshed and ready to continue the state’s development under his People First agenda.
Governor Otu’s leave will start on March 11, 2025, and will last for three weeks. During this time, Deputy Governor Rt. Hon. Peter Odey will be in charge of running the state.
The House reaffirmed its support for the governor’s policies and leadership, stressing that his guidance is crucial to the continued progress of Cross River State.
