Tragedy enveloped Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters in Kano on Friday as seven members of the same family were brutally killed in what police have described as a suspected housebreak attack.

The victims were identified as Fatima Abubakar, 35, and her six children, who were reportedly attacked by unknown assailants after their home was forcefully entered around 12:10 p.m.

According to the Kano State Police Command, the attackers used dangerous weapons, inflicting fatal injuries on all seven victims before fleeing the scene.

The command said it received a distress call shortly after the incident and promptly deployed operatives to the area.

In a statement, the police disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, immediately ordered the deployment of a team led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, Lawal Mani, to the crime scene.

The victims were evacuated and rushed to the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, where doctors later confirmed them dead.

“The victims were taken to the hospital for urgent medical attention but were sadly pronounced dead on arrival,” the statement said.

Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to commence a comprehensive investigation aimed at unraveling the circumstances surrounding the killings and tracking down those responsible.

Reacting to the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in Kano, Abdullahi Kiyawa, expressed the command’s condolences to the bereaved family and the community.

“We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the immediate family of the deceased, the residents of Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, and the entire people of Kano State over this tragic loss,” Kiyawa said.

He assured the public that the police would pursue the case diligently and urged residents to volunteer any information that could assist the ongoing investigation.
