President Tinubu mourns loss of lives in Niger State tanker explosion
President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow following the tragic fuel tanker explosion that claimed the lives of over 80 people and left many others injured. The incident took place on Saturday at Dikko Junction in Gurara Local Government Area, Niger State.
In a statement by Bayo Onanuga special Adviser to the president on Information and Strategy, President Tinubu extended his condolences to the victims’ families, as well as to the government and people of Niger State.
He described the explosion as a tragic and avoidable disaster, particularly as many of the victims had been attempting to collect fuel from the overturned tanker.
The President has ordered urgent medical care for the injured and has instructed relevant authorities to put in place measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
He also advised the public to stay clear of accident sites, particularly those involving fuel tankers, due to the high risk of explosion.
Furthermore, President Tinubu has tasked the National Orientation Agency with launching a national awareness campaign to educate the public on the dangers of collecting fuel from crashed tankers.
