President Tinubu mourns passing of NUJ, IPI leader Hajiya Rafat Salami
In a heartfelt condolence message, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended his sympathies to the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the International Press Institute (IPI) over the demise of Hajiya Rafat Onyeche Salami, the newly elected Treasurer of IPI.
Hajiya Salami, a renowned journalist and advocate for women’s and children’s rights, passed away, leaving a deep void in the journalistic community. She also served as the Secretary of the NUJ Abuja Council, where her contributions to advancing journalism in Nigeria were widely celebrated.
President Tinubu expressed his condolences to the leadership and members of the IPI, the Voice of Nigeria (VON) staff, and the National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ). He praised Hajiya Salami’s dedication to her profession, noting her impactful career as a reporter, broadcaster, and producer. Her commitment to informing the public on developmental issues and championing the rights of women and children marked her as a voice of compassion and change.
The President encouraged colleagues, friends, and family to honour Hajiya Salami’s legacy by continuing the impactful work she championed during her lifetime.
As the journalistic community mourns this immense loss, her contributions and unwavering passion for journalism and advocacy will remain an enduring source of inspiration.
