President Tinubu to attend Africa Heads of State energy summit in Tanzania
President Bola Tinubu is set to depart Abuja on Sunday to attend the Africa Heads of State Energy Summit in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, scheduled for 27–28 January 2025.
The summit, hosted by the Tanzanian government in collaboration with the African Development Bank Group and the World Bank, is focused on advancing “Mission 300,” a continent-wide initiative aimed at providing electricity access to 300 million Africans by 2030.
Bringing together African leaders, private sector stakeholders, development partners, and civil society groups, the summit will strategise on accelerating energy access across Africa. Discussions will centre on renewable energy, energy efficiency, and mobilising private sector investments to address energy challenges in underserved regions.
On the summit’s opening day, countries, including Nigeria, will present their national energy strategies—known as compacts—detailing plans to achieve universal energy access within five years. The event will culminate on the second day with Heads of State endorsing the Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration, which will outline a unified roadmap to achieving the Mission 300 goals.
President Tinubu will deliver a national statement reaffirming Nigeria’s dedication to achieving universal energy access while highlighting ongoing clean energy initiatives and Nigeria’s leadership role in the continent’s energy sector.
Accompanying the President will be the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu; the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu; the Special Adviser to the President on Energy, Olu Verheijen; and other senior government officials.
President Tinubu is expected to return to Abuja following the conclusion of the summit.
