Paris Saint-Germain have booked a place in the UEFA Champions League final after defeating Arsenal 2-1 in the second leg of their semi-final clash on Wednesday, claiming a 3-1 aggregate victory.

At the Parc des Princes, Fabian Ruiz opened the scoring in the 27th minute with a powerful strike from the edge of the box, putting PSG firmly ahead after surviving early pressure from the visitors.

Despite missing a second-half penalty through Vitinha, the French champions doubled their lead in the 72nd minute when Achraf Hakimi found the net, effectively ending Arsenal’s hopes. Though Bukayo Saka managed to pull one back for the English side shortly after, it was too late to spark a comeback.

PSG now advance to their second-ever Champions League final, scheduled for May 31 in Munich, where they will face Inter Milan. The Paris club last reached the final five years ago, losing to Bayern Munich in Lisbon.

For Arsenal, it was the end of their European campaign, falling short of what would have been only their second final appearance in 19 years since their loss to Barcelona in Paris. Mikel Arteta’s side will now turn their focus to securing a third consecutive second-place finish in the Premier League, with their last trophy coming in the 2020 FA Cup.

The evening was charged with excitement in the French capital as fans created a vibrant atmosphere, celebrating their team reaching a final in front of home supporters for the first time after their 2020 semi-final win was played behind closed doors due to the pandemic.

Arsenal started brightly, creating several early chances. Declan Rice came close with a header, while Gianluigi Donnarumma made excellent saves to deny Gabriel Martinelli and Martin Odegaard within the opening minutes. PSG gradually settled, with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia hitting the post before Ruiz’s decisive opener.

The drama continued into the second half as Donnarumma again denied Saka, and a contentious penalty was awarded after VAR review, though Vitinha’s effort was stopped by David Raya. Hakimi later extended PSG’s lead, and although Saka reduced the deficit, he missed a late sitter to level the tie.

PSG held firm, avoiding another European collapse, and celebrated a famous victory as they booked their place in Europe’s biggest game of the season.
