Reps Member Muhammad Danjuma Hassan dies at 66
The House of Representatives has announced the death of one of its members, Muhammad Danjuma Hassan, describing his passing as a profound loss to the legislature and the nation.
Rep. Hassan, who represented Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency of Kano State, died on Friday evening, April 10, 2026, in Abuja after a period of illness. He was 66 years old.
Until his death, he served as Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary. He was elected into the National Assembly in 2023 under the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
In a statement issued on Saturday by House spokesman Akin Rotimi, the Green Chamber paid glowing tribute to the late legislator, highlighting his decades of contributions to legislative development and constitutional processes in Nigeria.
The statement noted that Hassan was widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s foremost legislative counsel and legal draftsmen, with several laws enacted over the years bearing his imprint.
Before joining partisan politics, he had a distinguished career within the National Assembly bureaucracy, where he rose through the ranks to become a Permanent Secretary. His institutional experience and governance knowledge were said to have greatly enriched legislative work and national discourse.
“As Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary, he made valuable contributions toward strengthening Nigeria’s justice system and upholding the rule of law,” the statement said.
Beyond the judiciary committee, Hassan also served on several strategic committees, including Public Petitions, Aviation, Solid Minerals, Constitution Review, and Treaties, Protocols and Agreements.
The House described him as a diligent, calm, and professional legislator known for humility and commitment to consensus-building.
Speaker Abbas Tajudeen extended condolences on behalf of lawmakers to the family of the deceased, his constituents, the government and people of Kano State, as well as colleagues and associates.
He is expected to be buried later on Saturday in line with Islamic rites.
