Rooney endorses Rosenior as Chelsea consider managerial options
Former England captain Wayne Rooney has publicly backed Liam Rosenior as a strong candidate for the Chelsea managerial job amid ongoing speculation over the club’s next head coach.
Rooney, who worked with Rosenior during their time at Derby County, described the 40-year-old coach as a progressive manager with strong leadership qualities. He said Rosenior has the tactical understanding and player-management skills needed to handle the demands of a top Premier League club like Chelsea.
Rosenior is currently head coach of RC Strasbourg in France’s Ligue 1, a club that shares ownership ties with Chelsea through the BlueCo consortium. His work in France has drawn attention, following earlier coaching spells at Derby County and Hull City, where he was credited with developing young players and implementing an attacking style of play.
Chelsea are weighing their options as they assess their managerial future, with reports linking several coaches to the Stamford Bridge role. Rosenior’s name has featured prominently in recent discussions, though no official announcement has been made by the club.
Rooney’s endorsement adds weight to Rosenior’s candidacy, as Chelsea continue consultations on the direction of the team ahead of the next phase of the Premier League season.
