Senate President promises quick action on Federal University Bill for Adamawa
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has promised the people of Adamawa State that the National Assembly will quickly work to resubmit the bill for the establishment of the Federal University of Education in Numan to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approval.
Akpabio made this promise during a meeting with the Adamawa South Senatorial Contact Group, led by Professor Maxwell Gidado, at the Senate on Wednesday. They were joined by their Senator, Binos Dauda Yaroe.
Earlier in February, President Tinubu had returned the Federal University of Education Bill to the National Assembly, asking for changes before he could sign it into law.
During their visit to the National Assembly, the delegation urged the Senate to speed up the process of reviewing and reintroducing the bill so they could finally establish the university.

“We will expedite action on your request,” Akpabio told the group, reassuring them that the President’s decision was not a total rejection of the bill.
Akpabio explained that the issues raised by the President were minor and could be easily addressed. “It was not an outright refusal. Nobody is saying that you cannot have a University of Education, but it is for us, as lawmakers, to look inwards, make those few corrections and represent the Bill to Mr President for assent,” he said.
He also assured the delegation that the National Assembly is fully supportive of the project, adding, “What you have come for is something that will promote not just unity but promote knowledge and also assist us to curb insecurity in the northern part of the country.”
Professor Gidado, who led the delegation, explained that their visit aimed to seek the Senate President’s help in ensuring the necessary amendments were made so that the bill could be signed into law.
