Three Fisher Women killed in ambush by Gunmen in Benue

In a tragic incident, three fisher women were brutally murdered by suspected gunmen in the Tse Ijim area, near Anyiin, Ukember Agya, Gaambetiev, Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.
The women, who were from the Tiv ethnic group, were returning from the market along the Anyiin-Wukari road when they were ambushed by the gunmen, believed to be part of the Jukun militia. The women were attacked and slaughtered as they made their way back home.
An eyewitness, Teryila Abuur, who spoke to The Nation, described the scene, stating that the women were waylaid and killed on their route. The tragic event occurred around 4 pm on Monday, sparking widespread panic among the farming communities in Gaambetiev.
Logo Local Government Area, where the incident took place, shares a boundary with Wukari Local Government Area in Taraba State—an area that has been the site of long-standing ethnic conflict between the Tiv and Jukun communities, which has lasted for over 30 years.
Local leaders, including Chief Iorbee Fate, expressed concerns that the killings could lead to further violence between the two ethnic groups in the border regions of Wukari and Logo. The bodies of the three women were later taken to Anyiin Health Centre for proper handling.
As of now, the Police Area Command has yet to receive an official report on the incident. The situation remains tense as authorities await further developments.
