Tinubu calls for unity, promises improved security, economy in 2026 Eid-el-Kabir message

President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerians to embrace unity and continue to support ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening the country’s security and economy.

In his 2026 Eid-el-Kabir message to Muslims across Nigeria and the world, the President said the nation is currently undergoing a “journey of reconstruction and renewal,” insisting that his administration’s reforms, though difficult, are necessary for long-term national prosperity.

“As a nation, we are on a journey of reconstruction and renewal. The reforms we have undertaken are challenging but necessary to build a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria for future generations,” Tinubu said.

He maintained that the policies introduced over the past three years have begun to yield positive economic outcomes, describing Nigeria as an emerging attractive destination for investment.

“Just as sacrifice brings reward, I am happy that the sacrifices and efforts we have made over the past three years have yielded a more stable economy… The walk through the dark tunnel is over, and the light is here,” he added.

The President also addressed ongoing security challenges, acknowledging continued attacks by terrorist groups and bandits in some parts of the country despite efforts by security agencies.

He praised recent security operations, including the reported elimination of a wanted ISIS-linked leader, and assured Nigerians that the government remains committed to restoring peace and stability.

“I assure you: you are neither abandoned nor forgotten. We will ultimately defeat all the forces of evil,” he said.

Tinubu urged citizens to use the Eid-el-Kabir celebration as a moment for reflection, sacrifice, and compassion, while also encouraging support for the less privileged and stronger national unity.

He further called on Muslims to pray for peace, leadership wisdom, and national progress.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government has declared Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays to mark the Eid-ul-Adha celebration.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani.

The statement reaffirmed the government’s commitment to recognising the spiritual significance of the festival and promoting national unity during the festive period.
