Tinubu restates more investment in Education

President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to boosting investments in Nigeria’s education sector, promising improved access to quality education across the country.
The President made this known on Friday during the groundbreaking ceremony for a N4 billion Senate Building at the Federal University, Kashere (FUK) in Gombe State.
Represented by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Pate, Tinubu described the event as a significant milestone in the nation’s quest to upgrade its educational infrastructure. He noted that the university would not only foster academic excellence but also stimulate social and economic growth within the region.
The newly planned Senate Building will feature about 100 offices, an archive, a council chamber, and other modern facilities.
The Executive Secretary of TETFund, Sonny Echono, said about four major infrastructure projects would soon be unveiled at the university. He added that the president’s approval of the Senate Building is in line with his broader strategy to develop Nigeria’s tertiary education system.
“TETFund remains committed to equipping institutions like FUK with the resources needed to thrive. In the past two years alone, we have completed and commissioned 687 capital projects across various higher institutions in Nigeria,” Echono said.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Umaru Pate, revealed that N350 million was spent on the newly completed Postgraduate Hostel, while N393 million went into building a 500-capacity lecture theatre under the 2022 capital intervention fund. Other projects listed include the N1.3 billion Medical College Complex, funded under the 2023 intervention.
Prof. Pate also disclosed that the university had named its newly established Medical College after the late Professor Jibril Aminu, in honour of his immense contributions to medical education and national development.
Gombe State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya, commended the Federal Government’s initiative, stating that it had accelerated infrastructure development in the institution. He urged the university management to maintain a commitment to excellence and resilience in the face of future challenges.
The event also featured the inauguration of the Postgraduate Hostel, the Medical College Complex, a student hostel, and a 500-capacity lecture theatre.
