Troops kill 13 Boko Haram insurgents in Borno

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have killed 13 Boko Haram insurgents in a failed ambush and Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack on their convoy in Kareto, Borno State.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, while soldiers were escorting humanitarian trucks along the Gubio-Damasak road.
According to military sources, the terrorists detonated two IEDs and opened heavy fire on the troops, who swiftly repelled the attack with superior firepower, killing 13 insurgents on the spot.
The troops pursued the fleeing attackers, recovering eight AK-47 rifles, ten magazines, a cache of 7.62mm ammunition, a camel bag, and several rolls of detonating cord wires used for making explosives.
One soldier sustained minor injuries but is reported to be in stable condition. The attack damaged four MRAP tyres, and two trucks caught fire during the encounter.
Despite the incident, the humanitarian supplies under escort were secured and successfully delivered to Damasak, while security forces intensified patrols to deny terrorists freedom of action in the area.
In a separate operation, troops of 3 Division/Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace (JTF OPEP) foiled a planned attack on communities in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State. Acting on a distress call, the soldiers ambushed and arrested a militia member at Kaskra in Ropp District.
The suspect was found in possession of an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and 11 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition. Preliminary investigations revealed that the armed group had been mobilised from a nearby community to attack villages in Nding. The suspect is currently in custody and undergoing interrogation to aid further security operations.
Major Samson Zhakor, the Media Information Officer, confirmed the military’s renewed commitment to safeguarding civilians and curbing insecurity in the Joint Operations Area.
