Trump’s National Security Adviser Waltz to resign over Yemen Airstrike Scandal

The United States President, Donald Trump’s National Security Adviser, Mike Waltz, is set to resign following a controversy in which a journalist was mistakenly included in a group chat discussing sensitive details of planned airstrikes on Yemen, according to American media reports.
CBS News reported that both Waltz and his deputy, Alex Wong, are expected to step down, while Fox News stated that President Trump is likely to make a public statement on the issue shortly. Waltz’s resignation would mark the first major exit from the Trump administration during his second term, which has so far seen fewer personnel changes compared to his initial tenure.
A White House official, however, declined to confirm the reports, saying it would be inappropriate to comment ahead of any formal announcement.
The pressure on Waltz intensified after the editor-in-chief of The Atlantic magazine revealed in March that he had been inadvertently added to a Signal group chat in which classified plans to strike Houthi rebel targets in Yemen were being discussed. The chat reportedly contained specific details regarding the timing and coordination of the military operation, with some messages sent only minutes before US fighter jets were due to launch.
Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth was also implicated in the scandal, having contributed sensitive operational updates to the same conversation. One of his messages reportedly read: “1215et: F-18s LAUNCH (1st strike package),” followed by, “Target Terrorist is @ his Known Location so SHOULD BE ON TIME.”
Subsequent messages indicated the timing of drone engagement and provided updates on the operation’s aftermath. Waltz is said to have shared intelligence confirming that the target had entered a building, which was later destroyed.
The incident has sparked serious concerns over operational security at the highest levels of the US government, with growing calls for accountability.
