Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has arrived in Niger State, leading a Federal Government delegation on a condolence visit to Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago and residents over the deaths of artisanal miners who reportedly died while in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

The visit comes as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Federal Government is seeking to establish the facts behind the deaths, which have triggered public concern and prompted inquiries by relevant authorities.

As part of the ongoing response, the Niger State NSCDC Commandant, Suberu Siyaka Aniviye, has been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.

Tunji-Ojo’s visit is aimed at commiserating with the state government and the people of Niger State over the loss of lives, while the probe continues.
