After weeks of intense consultations, the Nigeria National Coalition Group (NNCG) has formally applied to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register a new political party, the All Democratic Alliance (ADA).

The coalition, largely made up of figures opposed to President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, confirmed its readiness to join the political contest under this fresh platform.

According to a letter dated June 19, 2025, and acknowledged by INEC a day later, the coalition, led by Chief Akin A. Rickets as Protem National Chairman, detailed its intention to register ADA as a full-fledged political party. In the document obtained by News360 Nigeria, the group stated that the party’s slogan would be ‘Justice for All’, with maize symbolically featuring in its logo to reflect its ideology.

The letter read in part: “We respectfully write to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, requesting the registration of our association, the All Democratic Alliance, ADA, as a political party. This is sequel to the decision taken by the Nigerian National Coalition Group to sponsor our association for full registration.”

It also confirmed that all required documents including the party’s flag, manifesto, constitution, and meeting minutes were attached, in line with constitutional provisions and the 2022 Electoral Act.

Notably, members of the coalition include several prominent politicians such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and the convener of the League of Northern Democrats, Dr. Umar Ardo, among others. The group, which had earlier weighed joining existing parties like the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP), later opted to float a new platform over concerns about internal disputes and litigations within those parties.

A committee headed by Amaechi reportedly recommended registering a brand new party to allow members start on equal ground without old factional baggage.

The move now formally puts ADA on track to seek INEC’s approval and potentially reshape Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of the next general elections.
