Martinelli’s late strike earns Arsenal dramatic draw against Man City

Gabriel Martinelli’s stoppage-time strike secured a 1-1 draw for Arsenal against Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

Erling Haaland had given City the lead in the ninth minute after Tijjani Reijnders’ powerful run ended with a fine pass that set up the Norwegian, who drilled his effort into the bottom corner.

City then sat back for long spells, forcing Arsenal to battle against a compact defence. The tide shifted after halftime when Mikel Arteta introduced Eberechi Eze and Bukayo Saka, giving the Gunners renewed attacking drive.

Despite Arsenal creating several chances, Gianluigi Donnarumma stood firm with crucial saves to keep City ahead.

But deep into stoppage time, Arsenal’s persistence paid off. Eze delivered an aerial ball that Martinelli latched onto, delicately lobbing Donnarumma in the 90+3rd minute to send the Emirates into wild celebrations.

The result denied City all three points and leaves Arsenal on 10 points as the Premier League heads into the international break.
