Tinubu summons Former Rivers Administrator Ibas to Aso Villa

President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday summoned the immediate past Rivers State Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), to Aso Villa amid growing scrutiny of the state’s finances during his six-month tenure.

Ibas, who arrived at the presidential villa around 5:50 pm in brown native attire, was joined by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukayede.

Earlier, Edun had entered the villa but quickly returned with a file, underlining the weight of the meeting.

Ibas left office on September 17 after the end of the emergency rule in Rivers State. His exit followed President Tinubu’s directive reinstating suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and members of the state House of Assembly.

During its first plenary session after the emergency rule, the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, resolved to investigate how funds were managed within the six months, particularly contracts and expenditures from the consolidated revenue fund.

Ibas had already opposed the Assembly’s decision to probe his administration’s spending.

Reports indicate that Rivers State received at least ₦254.37 billion from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) between March and August 2025 while Ibas served as sole administrator.
